If you have a bathroom full of beauty products, there’s a high chance you have a few bottle of R+Co products front and center. The brand is known for their unique packaging as much as their hair formulations. Who is the design wizard behind the latest Sail Soft Wave Spray, Trophy Shine + Texture Spray, and Wall St Strong Hold Gel packaging? Meet R+Co’s Creative Director and Packaging Designer, Amanda Wall!
Choupette Social Girl: You’re a Creative Director and model?! Do you consider yourself a “Girl Boss”?
Amanda Wall: I would prefer to be considered just a BOSS, without gender! But yes, I know what you mean and would be happy to identify with the “girl boss” movement.
CSG: You have an effortlessly cool look about your hair, what products do you use?
AW: The effortless look of my hair really comes from putting very little effort into it, I wash it like once a week usually after using PALM SPRINGS, our treatment mask, that I put on for half an hour before taking a shower. I’m also super obsessed with a product that we recently launched called HIGH DIVE. It’s a moisture and shine cream that really revives my bleached out blonde hair, I use it every day.
CSG: Since you’re a model “guru”, which upcoming models should we keep our eyes on?
AW: There are so many great new faces right now that it’s hard to name just a few. It’s exciting that beauty and fashion are transitioning more to the idea of uniqueness and character and away from previous fashion model standards. I’m always attracted to unconventional looks – cool kids with punk rock haircuts.
CSG: R+Co is known for their packaging. How do you conceptualize these ideas? What’s your creative process?
AW: I always start with naming the product. The idea of using very simple names that relate to the function of each product is very important to me. For example our dry shampoo is called DEATH VALLEY Dry Shampoo, so you instantly think of the desert and a dry texture. I actually drove out to Death Valley to take the photo on the packaging – we shoot a lot of the product imagery ourselves.
CSG: Give us a hint as to what’s coming next for R+Co… pretty please!
AW: Fast cars and big skies.
