Mirabelle founder Veronique Henry has travelled extensively throughout her life, gaining a unique perspective in creating and sourcing jewelry. The daughter of a Parisian silversmith, Véronique’s passion for South East Asia is translated in the intricacy and vibrant colour combinations of her designs, fusing ethnic and contemporary aesthetics. With a strong belief in the power of jewelry to uplift the spirits, collections are imbued with symbolism and meaning, from crystal stones to ancient talismans.
Most of Mirabelle jewelry is produced by fair trade suppliers using sterling silver, 22k gold plated metals, brass, bronze, semi precious stones, from trusted sources. With a connection to nature and a passion for fair trade practices, I picked founder Veronique Henry’s brain on the power of jewelry, animal symbolism, and more…
Choupette Social Girl: What gives you a unique perspective on jewelry?
Veronique Henry: The fact that I travelled a lot and still do gives me a unique perspective on jewelry as I get to see different cultures, and so I can mix and innovate with different styles. The meaning I give to the jewelry is another aspect as I do believe every piece carries a certain vibration or meaning, and lastly the care I put into it. Every piece is carefully thought about.
CSG: What power does jewelry have?
VH: Jewelry has the power we give it. If you do not believe it has power or meaning then it will not do much. On the other hand, if we believe it has the power to protect us or give us a little joy – like wearing our favorite animal – then the animal or jewelry symbol will come to life so-to-speak.
VH: Because then I know there is no harm done to the people or the Earth. It is all about respect. Also, I do believe that the piece carries a vibration so it is important the people who actually create the jewelry are happy doing it. It is reflected in the piece we wear and if it is a happy piece, then it will feel nice to wear it.
CSG: What are your favorite natural materials to work with?
VH: Natural stones like tourmaline, kunzite, roc crystal, gold and Brass. I like all natural stones, cut or freeform. I like Gold and Brass for their gold colour. I tend to prefer blues tones and clear tones, but overall each stone is particular and unique so you can have a beautiful agate.
CSG: There are a lot of animal symbols in your work. Do you feel a connection to nature and its preservation?
VH: Absolutely, yes! I am very close to nature and it has a lot to offer. We can learn a lot and again, respect and cherish it. Wearing a piece of symbolic nature or nature itself in the form of crystals feels good to me, The animals we create are very detailed; for some of them, it is like they have their own personality! I always say that they will find a good home when they go.
