CBD — The three letters that are EVERYWHERE right now, from beauty to your corner cafe. While CBD brands are popping up left and right, finding the right products to fit your needs and understanding the science behind it can be confusing.
What is CBD?
CBD or cannabidiol is one of the roughly 100 compounds known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, CBD cannot get you high. There are two kinds of CBD: isolate CBD and full-spectrum CBD. Many experts prefer full-spectrum because it offers enhanced effects.
What does CBD do?
“Humans, and even mammals, have a natural receptor system known as the endocannabinoid system that CBD interacts with. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) impacts a wide range of health and disease-related conditions, so it’s vital that we care for this system. Many studies show that the when this system doesn’t work well, the likelihood of developing certain conditions increases. The endocannabinoid system can be found in almost every part of our body, but especially the nervous system and the immune system. A healthy endocannabinoid system balances our cells and organs – it’s the yin and yang of the body. CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system and binds to receptors found in the endocannabinoid system (ECS). CBD binds to these receptors in a way that causes your body to produce more of them, so the communication between cells can be strengthened
and improved.” (Green Roads)
How Do You Know How Much to Take?
While there are tons of articles about the benefits of CBD, there are few about properly dosing CBD. To make things more confusing, unlike with other supplements, The FDA has not created a Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) for CBD, which means CBD does not have an official serving size.
There is no “one size fits all” for dosing. The below factors all play into your consumption and each individual differs.
- The concentration of CBD
- The weight of the individual
- The individual’s body chemistry
- The severity of the condition being treated
To find your ideal dose, follow the below steps:
- Estimate your dosage based on your body weight using Honest Marijuana’s Simple Dosage Calculator.
- Start small and increase gradually.
- Consult your physician.
What Are Some Top Brands & Products?
Everyone prefers to consume CBD in different ways but my personal preference depends on the time of day. In the morning I will take gummies from either Green Roads or Sunday Scaries, throughout the day if I want to “microdose” I will drink VYBES, and then before bed I will make Green Roads Tea or add Sunday Scaries CBD Tincture or Mineral Health Sleep Tincture to regular tea.
While all of the above brands currently have a place in my routine, if you’re looking to start testing CBD products, one of my favorite brands Green Roads is offering readers a 15% discount using code CHOUPETTE15 at checkout.
