Every time I look at photos of myself, the first thing I notice is my uneven eyebrows. No matter what I do, I never get that perfect Instagram brow. Tired of going to the corner nail salon for brow tinting I turned to the professionals at Wink Brow Bar and got the 411 on brow shaping, tinting, and maintenance from founder Umbreen Sheikh.
Choupette’s Social Girl: How do you change your brow shape based on the season?
Umbreen Sheikh: I think a brow shape really depends on the person’s face shape rather than the season. For example, if you’ve got a heart-shaped face, a softer arch will soften the point of your chin. A well-defined, angular arch can help draw attention up and away from your jaw if you’ve got a square face and a strong brow looks best on an oval face.
CSG: What’s a tip for blondes to find their right brow shade?
US: When in doubt, pick a pencil that is the closest to the root color of your hair and look for the wax type. Though for blondes or redheads, go for a natural or light brown color, which is going to flatter their face, despite their hair color.
CSG: Should you change your brow color based on season?
US: If you are going for a bold brow look this season, pick a color that matches your own hair color. It’s too much if you pick a darker color and it will result in you looking very unnatural if you apply too much product. With lighter brows you can mix between the same shade and a slightly darker shade. This is why I recommend brow powder kits as you can always mix colors according to your brow color.
CSG: What are the major Fall brow trends?
US: I think the bold, yet natural brow look is really taking over this season. To ensure you get this look, brow powders are best to not make your brows look overdone or fake when you have sparse or thinned brows.
CSG: How do you maintain a brow tint at home?
US: I believe you should shade in your brows with a powder, using an angled brush for the most foolproof at-home method. First stand back and try to examine the shape of your brow. For just a few sparse areas, tap the end of the brush (the pointed part) with a dab of color and gently tap onto the brow into the spotty area. Stand back and take a look often to ensure that you are headed in the right direction.
