Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone… And I think it’s gonna be a long long time!
Daddy took Chanel’s A/W 2017 collection to new heights: space that is. The out of the world A/W 2017 collection themed “Chanel Ground Control” was set in Paris’s iconic Grand Palais in a mock space station centralized around a life-size Chanel rocket ship. Don’t worry no models were launched into space; Gigi, Bella, and Kendall remain on Earth (not down to Earth).
While Daddy’s minions, I mean iconic Chanel ambassadors, Pharrel, Cara Delevigne and Lily-Rose Depp sat front row, models paraded around in futuristic metallic boots, spacesuit printed dresses, space blankets (it’s a thing I swear), and galactic prints carrying rocket ship handbags and donning oversized mirror sunglasses. Underneath pearl and knit headbands, the 1960’s voluminous Barbarella-inspired hair made a comeback. For those not ready to wrap themselves in ballooning space blankets or wear metallic leather knuckle warmers, Daddy remained loyal to Chanel tweed suits, albeit worn over long tweed shorts or oversized bell bottoms.
As Daddy Karl Lagerfeld took his final bow, my nephew Hudson Kroenig debuted the new Gabriella handbag. Every little boys dream, oui? For the finale, after 10-second countdown, the Chanel rocket began to smoke & blasted off as models lined up with Elton John’s “Rocket Man” playing in the background.
Up, up and away!
