Every now and then my cold heart warms when I see organizations helping pets in need. After seeing the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, I put together a list of ways you can help pets affected by the natural disaster.
1. Austin Pets Alive! is seeking families that can foster cats and large dogs. In addition to fostering, the organization can also use in-kind donations like large plastic or metal bins with lids. Check with the organization first before you gather supplies. If you can help with fostering or in-kind donations, go HERE.
2. The SPCA of Texas has put out a call for foster homes to help care for the animals already in shelters and those coming from the Gulf Coast. The organization is also accepting financial donations and in-kind donations, including cat litter, litter boxes, towels, blankets, large wire crates, toys, treats, pet beds, newspaper and gas gift cards. Sign up to foster HERE.
3. A number of online fundraising sites have also been set up through GoFundMe, with donations benefiting everything from hurricane and disaster relief groups to animals and families in need. The full list of fundraisers can be viewed by going on GoFundMe’s Hurricane Harvey Relief page.
4. Put your Amazon Prime account to good use and shop for useful pet necessities such as cat food, dog food, litter, crates, or other amenities on Austin Pets Alive!’s Amazon Wishlist.
